Elyaz's Birth Experience - Doctor Idora, Pantai Bangsar

Assalamualaikum again (after a loooongg break) 😊😉😉😉

Alhamdulillah, I have safely birthed my third son on 3rd June 2017 (8th Ramadhan). It was the best experience I ever had and would not mind to repeat. Let's begin with my pregnancy period.

This time, it was an unexpected pregnancy. We didn't have it in our agenda at least for that time. When we found out that we were pregnant, it was already around 8 weeks maybe (couldn't recall exact date). At first, I could see some changes in my body but I just assumed I was getting fat and planned to do some weight loss exercises and put on the girdle to hide the tummy. I really had no idea I was already pregnant at that time. So, after confirming that I was pregnant, I started to maintain a healthy diet. This time around, I'm just not excited to eat nuts and dates like my previous pregnancy. I just ate them occasionally. Everything was Alhamdulillah smooth. Since I had an uncomfortable birth experience before, I started to search for a gynae which I would feel comfortable with.

At first, I started to search for hospitals around my home. But, the cost was pretty high and most doctors have lots of stories involving unnecessary c-sect which is a big no-no to me. Later, I have finalised for 3 doctors and made an appointment with them separately. The first doctor I met was Dr. Suriati from Pantai Cheras. She was very relaxed, friendly and welcoming. I liked that she took her time to listen to my concerns and gave a very warm respond. The only minus was the hospital itself. My husband does not like that it was hard to get a parking and there were very little choices of eateries. The second doctor was Dr. Idora from Pantai Bangsar. I heard lots of positive comments about her and was very excited to see her. During my first appointment with her, I was already 4 months plus pregnant and she did the detailed scan for me. It was a totally different experience with my previous doctors. She was very detailed and took her time to explain every single thing to me. Since I was satisfied with my visit to Dr. Idora, I didn't make an appointment with the 3rd doctor on my list.

Moving on to the birth story...
39 Week Day 3
It was the 7th day of Ramadhan and I am still fasting and working. I started having mild surges during sahur but since it was very mild I thought it's just braxton hicks so I continued fasting. That morning my husband went for an interview so I had to drive to work on my own. I had lots of work to be handover to my colleague and everything was last minute. I tried to finish off my work but the surges were getting stronger towards the evening.

At around 3pm,

I timed my surges to be around every 10 minutes and each surge lasted around 30 seconds to 1 minute. I was still having lots of work to be completed but I was already shivering at the moment.

At 4.30pm,

I decided to go back home since I drove myself to work. I'm worried if the surges become stronger while on the way home since it was Ramadhan, I could get stuck in the traffic. Alhamdulillah no drama at all! Once reached home, my husband already prepared a meal for me. Thank you husband! I ate rice and roasted lamb and kept on timing the surges.

Sometime around 8pm

At first, I wanted to go to the hospital at 8pm after Maghrib prayers but since the surges were still bearable, I delayed on going to the hospital. There was no bloody show or water leaking so I'm still confident that labour will not happen very soon.

Isyak prayers was a bit difficult for me. I was having surges during prayers. That night, I put Yousef to bed earlier than usual. I was having surges in his bedroom and just stayed to read him bedtime prayers. After that, I asked Rafael to go to bed. It was his last night sleeping with me on the same bed. Felt quite sad to think about it. I took the kurma and zam zam water to my bedroom together with the gym ball. Once Rafael is already asleep, I bounced on the gym ball while thinking of opening of a flower and ate lots of kurma. Surges was getting more and more frequent but still I'm not confident to go to the hospital yet. I tried laying down and tried to force myself to sleep but was awaken by the surges.

At 12 am,
I was texting my sisters saying that I'm already experiencing labour surges. I was still not confident to go to the hospital thinking that i will be delivering the next morning.

 At around 12.30 am,
I took a long hot shower trying to bear with the surges. My husband came and asked whether we should go to the hospital right now. I was confused and asked him to wait. It seems like the surges were getting more and more frequent, so I decided to head to the hospital.

1am,
The time was already 1 am. My husband quickly packed everything and woke up the kids. Once in the car, surges were becoming more and more intense. But still, I think I would not be birthing anytime soon. The journey to the hospital seems neverending. There was even a road block near our house! I was already crying in the car. My kids helped keeping me calm. Once we arrived at the emergency of Pantai Bangsar, I was wheeled to the labour room while my husband and kids went to park the car.

The nurse at the labour room was super nice! She asked me to change to hospital gown but I wanted to wait until the surges stopped. She immediately came and gave me a back massage. After the surges ended, I quickly changed to the hospital gown and more surges came. Again, I had to stop and took my time before climbing on the hospital bed. The nurse asked me to lie down to perform VE. The surges were already painful at the moment. One of the nurses gave me the enthonox gas for pain relief. Once on the gas, I was already up in the clouds. I could see myself in the clouds laughing while hearing my own voice screaming in pain. I didn't even feel any pain at all. I could feel the baby sliding through together with a very strong surge. At the moment, I was on my left side. The good thing was, the midwife and nurses assisted my birth in the position I was at. They didn't ask me to change to the typical birthing position (on the back). Finally, Elyaz was out in two strong surges. Alhamdulillah!
Elyaz was put on me for skin to skin immediately after birth. I could still remember how he looks like and his sweet smell. Dr Idora arrived after Elyaz was already born. She helped with the delivery of placenta which was around 5-10 minutes after birth. Everything was smooth Alhamdulillah. And we were also able to experience delayed cord clamping until the cord stops pulsating.

I am very pleased with the midwives and doctor in Pantai Bangsar. I highly recommend Pantai Bangsar for any expecting mothers.
